#443

Kubilay's South-Korean volcano was a refreshing approach after some WoGE-disappointments (I couldn't even find out the hemisphere in one of them)!

Ok, here's #443:

#440 reminded me of this (also) happy face that was almost forgotten.

So, your goal is to find out the exact location and the geology of this place and, if you are the first, you can have the honor of presenting the next WoGE. Rules, tips and previous WoGEs are collected by Felix on his blog and a KML file is available with all WoGEs.

  1. I wish happy face for everybody, but unfurtunately in Turkey it is not possible in these days because of Soma coal mine accident. 787 people had been inside the mine when an electrical fault triggered the blast. Carbon monoxide poisoning had claimed many lives. The electrical fault triggered a power cut, making the mine cages unusable. Those trapped are reported to be 2km (1.2 miles) below the surface and 4km from the mine entrance (bbc).
So please give a pray for them. All underground workers.
The blast happened at about 12:30 GMT on Tuesday.

  2. I knew I had seem that crater before...
    24°55′0″N 17°46′0″E, the Waw-an-Namus crater in Libya.

The central caldera houses three small salt lakes of different colour and a rich oasis. On a larger scale the whole volcanic field is easily visible from space, as dark basaltic tephra extends 10-20 km from the central cone - with a clearly visible wind blown "tail".
